The Prescott-Harshman House, built by Delphus Huffman in 1904, is located at 33429 SE Redmond-Fall City Road. Two early photos of the house are in the Fall City Collection.

Newton Harshman

In 1912 this house became the home of the Newton and Julia Harshman (shown in the photo above). The Harshmans came to Fall City between 1900 and 1910 and were very respected members of the community. The office of the Harshman Telephone Company, later called the Fall City Telephone Company, also moved to this location in 1912. When Julia died in 1933, her only child, Gertrude, and Gertrude's husband, George Satterlee, inherited the telephone business. The Satterlees operated the telephone company until Cascade Telephone of North Bend bought them out in 1947. (see separate report for History of Fall City Telephones)

The Prescott-Harshman House, as it came to be known during the landmark process, was designated a King County Landmark in 1984. With the house aging and in disrepair, owner Ann Sutherland had sought restoration funds but couldn't find funding. Audrey Schroeder purchased the property in 1989 and took on a true labor of love. Audrey meticulously restored the house inside and out to the exacting preservation standards of the King County Landmarks Commission. For her exceptional restoration work, Audrey was honored with the "Project of Exceptional Merit" award by the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation. June 1991 photographs of the restored house, from Audrey's scrapbook, are shown below.
